Marvelous Mondays – January 16th

16 Jan

Wow, I cannot believe it is Monday again! It feels like I was just sitting here writing my first Marvelous Monday post!

So let’s get to it. There are some pretty exciting things going on this week, and I am mighty excited to share them with you!

The Bachelor

What shenanigans will slut-tastic Blakely and full-of-herself Courtney be up to this week?

How do they not get cold sores or Mono on this show?

"How did that taste coming out of your mouth?"

Last week was pretty great, but I will admit that I was sad to see cry baby Jenna go home. She definitely added some entertainment to the already insane show.

Pinterest Baking Project

Saturday night I made a recipe I found on Pinterest, and it was amazing. I cannot wait to share my S’mores cookies with the Bachelor girl crew tonight!

NomNomNom

New Clothes

I went shopping this weekend, and got a few new outfits!

They were having incredible deals this weekend, and the best deal of all were jeans I got from the Gap. I scored three pairs of $21! Yes, $21 total! Oh emmmm geee!

I also got this fun sweater and shirt from Limited!

Like the cameo from the Baby Karly?

Happy Nails

If these nails don’t scream, “I’m happy!”, I don’t know what does!

Arbonne-Mainia

Tonight I will be receiving a “fit kit” from Arbonne.

I have always been a fan of Arbonne skin products, but have not ever tried the diet/health products.

Look out for the review in the next few weeks! And please let me know if you have tried any of these products. I would love to chat about them and get your tips and tricks!

Fashion Friday’s – Budget Edition

I was so pleased by everyone’s positive feedback of Fashion Fridays last week, and I am really looking forward to the review I have planned this week. This week will be a much more budget-friendly review, perfect for our New Year’s money saving resolutions!

DEG Holiday Party

My company Holiday party is this Friday, and it is going to be great one! And P.S., if you are looking for a great place to work, click here and tell them Ali sent you!

Twitter Road Race

My Twitter pal Doug, @seedouglasrun, had a genius idea to hold a virtual Twitter road race! The race is this Saturday and will be a 5K. I am excited to run the virtual race with Stacy and Diana on Saturday!

I would suggest that you sign up to run the race as well! Twitter Road Race.

What do you have planned for this week?

I always love seeing your feedback and comments, so make me smile and give my comments section some lovin’!

xoxo,

Ali

My Purple Toenail

15 Jan

Yep, I am about to write a blog post about my disgusting and gross purple toenail. If you’re not interested in this post, or semi-grossed out by the thought of it – stop reading now.

If you’re up for it, read on…..

So, I have a purple toenail. It is ugly, and nasty, and the only polish that will cover it is (surprise) purple, blue or black! And although this purple toenail is annoying, icky and a total inconvenience, I really really like it.

But why would I ever like having a purple toenail? It’s easy. It’s because it reminds me of one of the best days of my life. That day is the day I ran a marathon (yep – I am STILL talking about my marathon)!

Every time I look down at my ugly gross toenail, I smile. I love the fact that the reason I have that unfortunate looking toenail is because I ran my butt off for 3 hours and 32 minutes. I also like to think the fact that I ran that long in the pouring down rain is another factor to the purple toenail, and that makes me feel like a total bad ass.

I will most likely be annoyed by this toenail come open toe shoe season, but right now I am going to enjoy and savor it. And I am going to continue to look at it and have a great deal of pride in myself for having it.

Now, I saved the best for last….and I KNOW you want to see it!

Wishing you all a happy Monday to come.

xoxo,

Ali

Fashion Fridays – Lululemon Edition!

13 Jan

I am excited to announce that going forward, every Friday I will be doing a fashion review on the blog. The fashion review will be focused towards some sort of fitness apparel, since this is a running blog! However that doesn’t mean other fashion items won’t be sneaking their way into these reviews.

So, Fashion Friday Volume One, let’s go!

Lululemon – Run: Swiftly Tech Short Sleeve

I purchased the Run: Swiftly Tech Short Sleeve top in October for the Rock ‘n Roll half marathon. Since that race, I have worn the top to kick boxing class, and bootcamp.

Pros:

The top is great! It is lightweight, and breathable. It also is a great moisture-wicking fabric, therefore you can wear it in hot weather alone, or cold weather as a layered item. It is soft, long, durable, and moves great with your body, which makes it a perfect top to wear to bootcamp/kick boxing class.

Yep, you have seen this top before!

Cons:

It is hard to think of too many cons for this shirt, other than the fact that it is a little pricey ($58).

The only negative thing I have to say about this top is the fact that it rides up a bit when I am wearing it. This issue could possibly be corrected if I got a larger size, but I have yet to try one.

Should you buy one?

Yes! I already plan on adding more colors of this top to my running collection, and possibly the long sleeve version if I can save some money. It is a great top, and so far seems very durable after the many loads of laundry it has been through.

And a little fashion bonus…

I doubt you could notice, but the most fabulous part of my outfit above are the Kate Spade earrings I am wearing. I always try to add a little pizazz to my outfit, and when I’m working out it’s no different.

A big thank you to my wonderful friend Brianna who gave me these awesome earrings for Christmas!

Thank you, Brianna!!!

Wishing everyone a fabulous Friday!

Until next time,

Ali

Let’s Get Lean, GNC Lean!

11 Jan

Recently, I received a set of GNC Lean Shake products to try out. Seeing that I got back into my workout routine this week, I decided it was the perfect time to dive into the product.

Included in my product set from GNC were the following:

Lean Shake – Powder
Lean Shake – Pre-made
On-The-Go Deluxe Blender

Lean Shake – Powder

The Lean Shake powder I have is Swiss Chocolate flavored. As a choc-o-holic I was very happy that this was the flavor I was sent. I also knew that the chocolate would be a great flavor to mix fruit in.

I got out my new On-The-Go blender (see below) and started mixing. The container calls for two scoops of powder, mixed with 8oz of cold water. Total calories: 180, Total Protein: 8g, Total Fiber: 8g Total Carbs: 30g, Total Sugar: 5g.

I decided to add a little oomph to mine, so I added some frozen strawberries to my water and powder and started blending. In only about 30 seconds of blending my breakfast was ready! I poured it in a cup, and hit the road (I love that it was the perfect consistency to drink from a straw).

The shake tasted amazing! It was like having dessert for breakfast! Seriously, when the shake was gone, I got sad! Then I started looking forward to tomorrow’s breakfast so I could have another 🙂

So did it ward off my hunger? Yes! I made it until lunch time (about 4 hours later) until I felt like it was time to eat again.

Lean Shake – Pre-made

The powder was so yummy, and I was very excited to try to pre-made shake for breakfast today. In my wonderful package from GNC, there was a 4-pack of pre-made Lean Shakes.

The pre-made version of the Lean Shake was Lactose Free, and had 24 vitamins and minerals! Total Calories: 170, Total Protein: 25g, Total Fiber: 3 g Total Carbs:6g, Total Sugar: 2g.

I grabbed the shake on my way out the door, and took a big drink. WOW – it was amazing.

The pre-made version was a thicker consistency than the powder/water version would be, had I not added strawberries. I liked the thicker consistency though. I also noticed that the pre-made warded off my hunger a little bit longer than the powder version did. I credit that to the additional grams of protein in this version.

On-The-Go Blender Deluxe

The item I received that I was most excited to try, was the GNC On-The-Go Blender Deluxe.

My first go at using this blender was to mix the powder shake with the frozen strawberries. I dumped my three ingredients into the blender cup, flipped it over and started blending!

As stated above, it only took about 30 seconds to completely blend the strawberries, powder and water together. I have used some blenders that took about 4 times that long, so I considered this a great success!

Final Review

Overall, I loved all the products I tried. And I am very happy that I have a month supply of the powder, 3 more pre-made shakes and my blender.

The only thing I would wish to change would be to add more protein to the powder, and reduce the carbs. It does confuse my why the pre-made version has over double the protein, and far less carbs. I would also like to add more fiber to the pre-made version. It seems that the trade-off between the powder and pre-made are related to the protein/fiber/carb content. Seeing that the pre-made version is more expensive per serving than the powder is, I will probably not use that one as much (I’m on my New Year budget).

I have always held a very good opinion of GNC products, and I will continue to do so. I look forward to *hopefully* try and review more of their products in the future!

Marvelous Mondays – January 9th

9 Jan

Well, it’s Monday again! But that is ok, because I have many things to be quite excited for this week! Following a nasty cold that threatened my sanity last week, this week is going to get started off right.

So why am I so happy? Well, read below and you’ll find out!

Bootcamp

Tonight I am going back to my favorite workout class – Survival Bootcamp! I have been going to Survival Bootcamp off and on for almost 4 years, and it is one heck of a workout. I am so ready and anxious to be back at bootcamp after quite a break. (If you creep the website enough, you will see some pretty awesome pics of me working out!)

Running

I am SO excited to be back to running tomorrow morning. Stacy, Diana and I are getting back into our weekly runs! As long as the weather cooperates this winter, we will be running (hopefully) at least twice a week together. I miss the girls, and I need them to get me through the cold winter months!

Get ready to be worked, Brooks Ghost

The Pact

Last night I started reading ‘The Pact’ and I cannot stop thinking about it. I rarely get into a book that fast, but this one is really good..

Revenge

I love Revenge!! And this week I get to enjoy another awesome episode of this gripping show! Will Emily Thorne get Revenge?!

SVU

Although it has been an adjustment this season without Stabler in the picture, Olivia is still there and I really love her. This week, it appears she will have a new love interest in the form of Harry Conick Jr.!

And last but not least…..

The Bachelor

I have been a Bachelor finatic since season 1. I love the show, and I love making fun of everyone on it. Even though I am not Ben’s biggest fan, I will still be there watching as he attempts to find love. I have my Bachelor crew, and we have watched every episode together for years. It makes me happy.

So that is what’s making me happy this week. Now please share what’s making you happy!

Cheers to you and a great week ahead,

Ali

P.S. I am thinking about writing a Marvelous Monday post every Monday to start the week off positive…do you think that is a good idea?

2012 Goals and Aspirations

5 Jan

2012 is a new year, which means new goals and new aspirations. Seeing that I am pretty much an open book to my readers, I would like to share these goals with you right now. Here goes!

In 2012, I dream of….

  1. Running a half marathon, and possibly getting that PR
  2. Running a half marathon next to my Mom, as she completes her very first 13.1
  3. Running a marathon, in an exciting city (NYC??)
  4. Running at least 800 miles (better get started)
  5. Completing at least one cross training workout every week
  6. Reaching my “goal weight”, by living healthy
  7. Saving money
  8. Taking a risk (a positive risk that is)
  9. Not allowing other people to have a negative impact on my life
  10. Blogging more (at least 4 times a week)
  11. Increasing my blog audience
  12. Becoming more involved with the FitFluential community
  13. Learning how to cook
  14. Saying less bad words (sorry Mom and Dad)
  15. Traveling somewhere I have never been
  16. Volunteering

As you can see, this list is large but totally doable. Many of these items are things I should already be doing (ahem, volunteering) but have yet to start.

What comments do you have about my goals? I would love to hear them! Do you have goals to share with me? I would love to hear those too!

Looking forward to spending another year with you all, and hopefully meeting many more new faces through this blog.
